The ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which will be the 13th edition of the tournament, is scheduled to take place from 5th October 2023 to 19th November 2023. This will be a significant milestone as it will be the first time that India will host the ICC World Cup entirely on its own. Previously, India had co-hosted the tournament in collaboration with Pakistan in 1987, with Pakistan and Sri Lanka in 1996, and with Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in 2011.

Originally, the event was planned to be held from 9th February to 26th March 2023. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the dates were rescheduled to October and November 2023.

This prestigious event will bring together teams from various cricket-playing nations, and fans can look forward to an exciting tournament filled with thrilling matches. The ODI Cricket World Cup 2023 is the most significant cricket tournament globally, featuring fifty-over matches that take place every four years. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has undertaken meticulous planning to ensure the success of this World Cup in India.

Australia holds the record for being the most successful team, having emerged victorious five times. The defending champions, England, who also clinched the T20 World Cup in 2022, are considered strong contenders to win the World Cup in 2023. The host country, India, enjoys the advantage of playing matches on their home ground.

Format

There should be 10 teams playing in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, the same as in 2019. The format will be the same as the 1992 and 2019 cricket world cups, where every team plays with the remaining teams in a round-robin (randomly selected team) fashion. Finally, four teams will compete in a semi-final, with the top two teams advancing to the final.

Qualification

The top eight teams, including host India, will qualify automatically, and the remaining two teams will be selected for the 2022–2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Super League matches.

Qualification Process ICC Cricket World Cup 2023

Qualified Teams for the 2023 Cricket World Cup:

India, Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Pakistan,  West Indies, and New Zealand are qualified and progress to the 2023 World Cup.

The remaining teams Sri Lanka, Ireland, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands qualify for to the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier from which two teams will press to the 2023 World Cup.
