The Verses of Istikfa (Aayatul Istikfa)
Below are the selected verses that make up Aayatul Istikfa.
1. Surah Al-Baqarah (2:156-157) – For Patience and Mercy
Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.” Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided.
2. Surah Aal Imran (3:135-136) – For Atonement and Forgiveness
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins – and who can forgive sins except Allah? – and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know. Those – their reward is forgiveness from their Lord and gardens beneath which rivers flow [in Paradise], wherein they will abide eternally, and excellent is the reward of the [righteous] workers.
3. Surah Aal Imran (3:173-174) – For Protection and Unshakable Faith
Those to whom hypocrites said, “Indeed, the people have gathered against you, so fear them.” But it [merely] increased them in faith, and they said, “Sufficient for us is Allah, and [He is] the best Disposer of affairs.” So they returned with favor from Allah and bounty, no harm having touched them. And they pursued the pleasure of Allah, and Allah is the possessor of great bounty.
4. Surah Al-Anbiya (21:83-84) – The Dua of Prophet Ayyub (AS) for Health and Relief
And [mention] Job, when he called to his Lord, “Indeed, adversity has touched me, and you are the Most Merciful of the merciful.” So We responded to him and removed what afflicted him of adversity. And We gave him [back] his family and the like thereof with them as a mercy from Us and a reminder for the worshippers [of Allah].
5. Surah Al-Anbiya (21:87-88) – The Dua of Prophet Yunus (AS) in Distress
And [mention] the man of the fish, when he went off in anger and thought that We would not decree [anything] upon him. And he called out within the darknesses, “There is no deity except You; exalted, are You. Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.” So We responded to him and saved him from distress. And thus do We save the believers.
6. Surah Ghafir (40:44-45) – For Entrusting Affairs to Allah
And you will remember what I [now] say to you, and I entrust my affair to Allah. Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants.” So Allah protected him from the evils they plotted, and the people of Pharaoh were enveloped by the worst of punishment.
