Explanation of this Dua from Quran
This verse extends a serious warning to those Muslims as well who prefer to pray for their material benefits only. Even at the unique time of Hajj and at places so sacred. They devote most of their concerns towards that goal.
The verse mentions those who pray by saying: Rabbana Atina Fid Dunya Hasanah…which does not include the word ‘Hasanah‘ (good).
This indicates that they do not care to have what is really good even in this mortal world, on the contrary, they are so drunk with their craze for material things that nothing short of a constant fulfillment of their desires would satisfy them.
They just do not bother to check if it is good or bad, procured rightly or wrongly, or what people think about them.

Purpose of This Dua
For instance, ‘Hasanah’ or ‘good in this world’ shall include personal and family health.
Increase and benedictory sufficiency (barakah) in awful livelihood, the fulfillment of all needs, virtuous deeds, desirable morals, beneficial knowledge, honor, and prestige. The strength of faith, guidance into the straight path, and perfect sincerity in ‘Ibadah’.
Similarly, ‘Hasanah’ or ‘good in the Hereafter’ shall cover everything from Paradise, with its countless and endless blessings to the pleasure of ALLAH Almighty and the privilege of seeing Him.
This verse also corrects those ignorant dervishes (so-called mystics) who think that real ‘ibadah lies in praying for the Hereafter alone and claim that they do not, on that count, care much about the mortal world. Don’t forget to read the benefits of→Allahumma Inni As’aluka Al Afiyah Full Dua

The Prophet ﷺ used to say, “O ALLAH! Our Lord! Give us in this world that, which is good and in the Hereafter that, which is good and save us from the torment of the Fire.” (Surah Al-Baqarah Verse #201)
In Saheeh Bukhari, Hadith #2690 [USC-MSA Web (English) Reference: Book 35, Hadith #6506]
Qatada asked Anas Anas Radi ALLAHu ‘Anhu which Supplication ALLAH’s Apostle ﷺ frequently made. He said:
The supplication that he the Prophet made very frequently is this:” O ALLAH, grant us the good in this world and the good in the Hereafter and save us from the torment of Hell-Fire.” He (Qatada) said that whenever Anas Radi ALLAHu ‘Anhu had to supplicate he made this very supplication, and whenever he (intended) to make another supplication he (inserted) this very supplication in that.
Imam Ahmad reported that Anas Radi ALLAHu ‘Anhu said,
ALLAH’s Messenger ﷺ visited a Muslim man who has become as weak as a sick small bird. ALLAH’s Messenger ﷺ said to him, ‘were you asking or supplicating to ALLAH about something’ He said, ‘Yes. I used to say: O ALLAH! Whatever punishment you saved for me in the Hereafter, give it to me in this life.
ALLAH’s Messenger ﷺ said: (All praise is due to ALLAH! You cannot bear it-or stand it-. You should have said: (Our Lord! Give us in this world that which is good and in the Hereafter that which is good, and save us from the torment of the fire!))
