life of sadrush shariah Amjad Ali Aazmi

Birth of The Great Jurist
The Grand Jurist Faqih e Azam Hind, Sadrush Shariah Hazrat Allama
Muhammad Amjad Ali   ا ر was one of the most prominent and
illustrious personalities of India. Huzoor Sadrush Shariah, Badrut
Tariqat Hazrat Allama Shah Qadi Amjad Ali Aazmi the son of Hakim
Jamaalud’deen, the son of Maulana Khuda Bakhsh, the son of
Maulana Khairud’deen was born at a place known as Karimud’deen,
which is situated in the district of Ghosi, in the well-known town of
Azamgarh in India.
Brief Family History
His father and grandfather both were renowned scholars in Religious
Theology and expert specialists in Unani medicine. When his
grandfather, Hazrat Maulana Khuda Bakhsh ا journeyed to Hajj,
he received the special permission for the recitation of the world
renowned Bouquet of Duroods Dalaa’il ul Khayraat Shareef in
Madinat ul Munawwarah from the Shaykh ud Dalaa’il. He was also a
great Saahib e Karaamat.
8
His Education & Zest For Knowledge
He received his elementary education from his grandfather,
thereafter studying under the watchful eye of his elder brother
Maulana Muhammad Siddique ا . After completion of his
elementary studies, he was enrolled for higher education at
Madrassa Hanafiyah in Jaunpur. This was a very famous and
reputable Islamic University in that time. There, he studied under
the guidance of a very reputable and distinguished Aalim of the era,
Jaami’ ul Ma’qulat Wa Manqulat Hazrat Allama Maulana
Hidayatullah Khan Jaunpuri ا who passed away in 1326/1908.
Hazrat Allama Hidayatullah Khan ا was the student of the
personality, who was known for first inspiring the Movement for
Independence in India, namely; The Imam ul Falsafa, Mujaahid e Jalil,
Hazrat Allama Fazl-e-Haq Khayrabadi
After observing his immense wisdom and acumen, Ustaz ul Asaataza
Hazrat Allama Hidayatullah Khan   counted him amongst his
most reputable students. This can be better understood from the
words of Allama Sayed Sulaiman Ashraf Bihari who was the
Professor of the Religious Faculty at Aligarh Muslim University, he
says, Hazrat Ustaazul Asaataza was kind and attentive towards
all of his students but he would place his special attention over
three of his students. He used to say, ‘I wish to take whatever is
in my heart and pass it on to these three students’.
9
The three students being mentioned were Allama Maulana
Muhammad Siddique, Allama Maulana Amjad Ali and Maulana
Sulaiman Ashraf.
It is for this very reason that once his beloved teacher said, I
managed to find one (true) student and that too, in my old age.
After completing his studies in Jaunpur, on the request of his
teacher, he journeyed to Madrasatul Hadith in Pillibhit to specialise
in Hadith, where he studied Hadith at the feet of Hafizul Hadith,
Hujjat ul Asr Allama Wasi Ahmed Surti   , who passed away in
1334/1916.
Graduation With Distinctions
He graduated with distinctions from the said Madrassa. As a student,
his teachers and management of the Madrassa acknowledged his
acumen and intellect alike. This can be gathered from the report
presented by the Director of the Madrassa which he had published in
Tohfa e Hanafiya in Patna. The report reads as follows:
Alhumdu-lillah, Hazrat Maulana Maulavi Shah Muhammad
Salaamatullah Saaheb Rampuri took the exams for our students
on the 6th of Zil Hijjah 1324. After completing the books of his
course, Maulavi Amjad Ali also studied the Sihah Sit’ta, Musnad
Shareef, Kitaab ul Athaar Shareef, Mu’atta Shareef and Tahaawi
Shareef with great enthusiasm and dedication throughout the
year.
10
The report further says, He studied by both listening and reading,
thus, excelled in his examination with distinctions. The examiner
was completely impressed with his ability, acumen, intellect and
talent. The turban was then tied on his head.
Appointment As Principal
After graduating and acquiring his degree, he was immediately
appointed as the Principal of Madrassa Ahl e Sunnat which was one
of the most reputable Madrassas in Patna, Bihar.
The excellence and reputation of this Madrassa can be understood
from the fact that before the arrival of Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush
Shariah  illustrious personalities like the distinguished student
of Allama Fazl e Haq Khayrabadi   ,Allama Maulana Abdul Aziz
Mantaqi   and Hafiz ul Hadith Huzoor Muhad’dith e Surti
held the positions of Shaykh ul Hadith at this Madrassa.
The first book that he was asked to teach whilst at the Madrassa was
The Hidaya Volume Two. He explained the issues presented therein
with such proficiency and so clearly, that the Ulama and all those
present there were astonished.
The Manager of the Institute, Qazi Abdul Waheed awarded him the
responsibility of handling all the Educational Affairs of the Madrassa.
11
A Great Muslim Physician
After the passing away of Qazi Abdul Waheed, he did not remain
there for too long. He then journeyed to Lucknow where he studied
Ilm ut Tibb, i.e. Islamic Medicine, for two years.
After completion of this course, he returned home and commenced
serving the people by opening a clinic. His clinic began to progress
successfully.
He excelled as a Tabeeb and treated people for their ailments, by
giving them both Medical and Spiritual advice. His patients loved
and respected him dearly, and he treated each patient with complete
sincerity and was devoted to his efforts to serve the ill.
When Huzoor Muhad’dith e Surti  ر heard that Huzoor Sadrush
Shariah    ر had started practicing and had opened a clinic for this
purpose, he became very sad.
He was saddened because he felt that Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush
Shariah   ر was better equipped and more needed to serve the
Ummah in the matters of Deen and in Judicial matters, rather than
in the field of medicine.
Huzoor Muhad’dith e Surti   ر was indeed regarded a Giant
amongst the Muhad’ditheen of the Era and he knew the true worth
of Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah
12
In The Court of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat
At this time, The Faqih of Faqihs of the Century, The Imam amongst
Imams, the Great Reviver of Islam, Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam Ahl e
Sunnat Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan    required the
services of a teacher at the world renowned Darul Uloom Manzar e
Islam in Bareilly Shareef. On the request of Huzoor Muhad’dith e
Surti   ا ر Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   then left his clinic and
proceeded to Bareilly Shareef. He initially served in Bareilly Shareef
as a teacher at the Darul Uloom Manzar e Islam.
When Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   initially intended to visit
Bareilly Shareef from Pillibhit, Huzoor Muhad’dith e Surti
wrote a letter to Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam Ahle Sunnat Ash Shah
Imam Ahmed Raza Khan  asking him to encourage the young
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah  to continue in the field of Ilm e Deen.
Within a few months Mujad’did e Deen o Millat Aala Hazrat Imam
Ahmed Raza Khan    arranged for Huzoor Sadrush Shariah
to reside permanently in Bareilly Shareef. He was entrusted with
many responsibilities by Imam Ahmed Raza Khan
The educational affairs of Madrassa Manzar e Islam, the
management of Anjuman Ahl e Sunnat, the management of the
printing press, the preparation of manuscripts, the proofing of books
that were being prepared for publishing, the issuing of Fatawa and
the dispatching of important mail was entrusted to him.
13
His Connection To The Court of Sayyidi
Aala Hazrat
Due to his great capabilities and his sincerity and devotion, Imam
Ahmed Raza  admired him, and showed him great respect. He
had immense trust and faith in him. The beloved son and his true
representative and the guardian of Maslak e Aala Hazrat
Huzoor Sayyidi Muhad’dith Kabeer Qibla says that,
The closeness and connection of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   to
the Darbaar of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat   was so strong that when I
would meet with Hazrat Maulana Hasnain Raza   who is the son
of Allama e Zaman Hazrat Maulana Hasan Raza Khan  he would
say, When Huzoor Sadrush Shariah Alaihir Rahma had not as yet
come to Bareilly, we would say that we were three brothers,
Hujjatul Islam, myself (Hazrat Hasnain Raza) and Huzoor Mufti e
Azam, but when Sadrush Shariah arrived, then we became four
brothers.
Sadrush Shariah in Ajmer Shareef
With the permission of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat    ا ر after
approximately fifteen years, he journeyed to Ajmer Shareef to take
up the position as Principal of Darul Uloom Mu’eenia Uthmania. He
remained there until 1350 Hijri and quenched the thirst of those who
came in search of knowledge.
14
The most intelligent and bright students travelled from all corners of
the country to humble themselves before him, quenching their
thirst for true knowledge and wisdom. Shaykh ul Ulama Allama
Ghulam Jilani Ghoswi   ا ر writes:
The standard of education at Darul Uloom Mu’eenia excelled to
such a high level, that it became famous throughout the country.
Students journeyed from the Northern Provinces, Bihar and
Hyderabad etc. to acquire knowledge from him, after hearing
about his teaching methods. Those who lived in Ajmer Shareef
say that never before had they seen such an atmosphere and
environment of learning which they saw in his era.
He returned to Bareilly Shareef in 1351 and for three years he served
at the Darul Ifta. In 1354, Nawaab Haji Ghulam Muhammad Khan
Sherwani, the Governor of Dadon Aligarh invited him to take up the
post as principal at Madrassa Haafizia Sa’eedia which he accepted.
He remained there for seven years and taught during this time with
sincerity and devotion, producing dynamic and capable scholars.
An Amazing Teacher
He was truly proficient in the art of teaching and instructing. As well
as, instructing the students through the customary books and the set
books, he also taught them other sciences, through other books as
well. He taught the books that were part of the syllabus but at the
same time he taught those books that were not part of the syllabus.
15
He did this by explaining to students the footnotes and
commentaries concerning these books. He would even spend time
after Madrassa hours to tutor the students. He would even teach on
the days when there was no Madrassa.
His manner of teaching and instruction gained prominence
throughout the country. He would explain absolutely difficult and
intricate issues to the students in such a simple manner, that even a
very weak student would be able to understand his explanation.
There came a time when the Aligarh Muslim University intended to
initiate a department which would specialise in Eastern education
allowing students to achieve an M.A. and for this, they were in
search of scholars who understood the current day situation and the
manner of instruction in the current day classroom. Amongst those
who were appointed to plan this faculty, was Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush
.ر ا Shariah
The Roving Ambassador of Islam Allama Abdul Aleem Siddiqi
Meerati ا presented a draft of the syllabus which he had
prepared, for correction and setting to Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush
Shariah  ا ر .Whilst delivering a discourse at the Annual Jalsa of
Madrassa Haafizia Sa’eedia, Maulana Habibur Rahman Sherwani paid
tribute to Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر as a person and as a
professional with these words: There are only four or five teachers
in the continent that I regard as completely proficient and
appointed on merit, and Maulana Amjad Ali is amongst them.
The fact that students are becoming Faazils at his hands and
16
acquiring certificates of merit is clear evidence of his proficiency.
He is not just a Maulavi by name.
When there was the need to appoint a Principal for Darul Uloom
Manzar e Islam, students were prepared and sent over to him for
lessons. The elder son of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam e Ahle Sunnat,
Huzoor Hujjat ul Islam Allama Haamid Raza Khan  ا ر observed his
manner of teaching from a distance. After he had observed him
teaching, he returned and said, When Maulana Amjad Ali was
answering the students, it seemed like a vast sea from which
waves of knowledge were rising.
The Blessing of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah
It is the blessing of the teaching of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر
that those who are his students directly or indirectly can be found
throughout the globe propagating Islam today. There is probably not
a single Madrassa or Darul Uloom in the Indo-Pak sub-continent that
does not have at least one teacher that has not attained his blessings
directly or indirectly. His works in the field of Fiqh are undoubtedly
glowing proofs of his services. Why should this not be so, when with
the exception of his special intelligence and expertise, he was
blessed with serving in the field of Jurisprudence as a Mufti under
the guidance of such a great and expert Jurist and Imam of the era
such as Mujad’did e Azam Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza  ا ر
a personality whose expertise and proficiency in Fiqh is not only
accepted by us but is also accepted by the detractors.
17
Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Acknowledges Him
Huzoor Sayyidi Aala Hazrat   ا ر acknowledged Huzoor Sadrush
Shariah  ا ر and had complete conviction in his understanding in
the matters of Fiqh, and in matters related to Fatawa. On account of
his diligence and competence in the mission entrusted to him, and
once while paying tribute to his excellence, Sayyidi Aala Hazrat
Imam Ahmed Raza Khan    ا ر said, You will find the quality of
understanding the Religion, i.e. in matters of Fiqh, to a greater
degree in Maulavi Amjad Ali incomparable to others present
here. The reason being that he is proficient in pronouncing,
writing and examining the various Fatawa. He writes down what
I say in response to the inquiries sought on his behalf; He has an
adoptive nature and he grasps the gist of the issue at hand,
without much effort. He has acquired familiarity with methods
and procedures which are an asset for him in this profession.
This alone shows that Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam Ahl e Sunnat Ash
Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan  ا ر acknowledged Huzoor Sadrush
Shariah’s   ا ر expertise as a Mufti and regarded him as being an
expert in this science.
Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan   ا ر admired his
determination and sincerity at the Darul Ifta and in every other field
that he partook in. He spent his days and nights working with
sincerity and striving for the betterment of the Ummah. It was due
to this dedication and his sincerity that Sayyidi Aala Hazrat    ا ر
often said, Maulana Amjad Ali Saaheb is a Work Machine.
18
The Senior Muftis Acknowledged His
Expertise
When the senior Ulama of the time would find difficulties in
resolving any issue, they would present their problems to Huzoor
Sadrush Shariah   ا رwhich he would comfortably resolve.
Once, Maulana Israar ur Rahmaan Saaheb of Hyderabad Dakkan sent
a query to him on the 18th of Rajab 1346 which consisted of a few
issues that needed to be resolved. In the beginning of his Istifta, he
writes:
These issues are so complicated that not just anyone will be
capable enough to write a satisfactory answer to it. After much
deliberation, I observed that Almighty Allah, through His Grace
and Mercy, and through the blessing of the Holy Prophet  ا ر
made you worthy of this position. May Almighty Allah grant you
abundance in your knowledge, age, and blessings, and may the
Muslims benefit from your blessings. Aameen Thumma Aameen.
Other learned and great personalities like Hazrat Maulana
Ziaud’deen Pillibhiti ا , Imam un Nahw Allama Ghulam Jilani
Meerati ا and Khair ul Azkiya Allama Maulana Ghulam Yazdani
Ghoswi ا also referred their queries to him whenever they faced
issues in Fiqh etc. which they found difficult to resolve.
19
Bai’at & Khilafat
Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah   ا ر took Bai’at at the hands of the
Mujad’did e Deen o Millat Imam Ahl e Sunnat Sayyidi Aala Hazrat
Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan   ا ر .
He was blessed with the Khilafat and the Wakaalat from Huzoor Aala
Hazrat   ا ر and great personalities like Sheh Besha Ahle Sunnat
Hazrat Allama Hashmati Ali Khan ا took Bai’at with Sayyidi Aala
Hazrat  ا ر through the blessed hands of Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush
.ر ا Shariah
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah  ا ر was a true and devoted mureed and
remained devoted to Sayyidi Aala Hazrat    ا ر and to Bareilly
Shareef until his final moments.
The Kanz ul Imaan
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر contributed immensely to the
initiation and finalisation of the world-renowned translation of the
Holy Qur’an by Imam Ahmed Raza, entitled Kanz ul Imaan, which is
regarded as the most unique Urdu translation of the Holy Qur’an.
Sayyidi Aala Hazrat    ا ر commenced the translation of the Holy
Qur’an and the world renowned Kanz ul Imaan came to be through
the efforts of Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah   ا ر .Huzoor Sayyidi
Aala Hazrat Imam Ahle Sunnat   ا ر would dictate the translation
and Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah   ا ر would write down the
20
translation. Hence, the compilation of Kanz ul Imaan was by the
blessed lips of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat   ا ر and by the blessed hands of
Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah   ا ر.
Sadrush Shariah
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah    ا ر was fundamentally and
psychologically capable as a Religious Scholar. However, he was also
well versed with the social, political and economic situation of the
Muslims. Whenever and wherever the need arose, he defended and
decorated the Muslims.
Allah Almighty blessed Huzoor Sadrush Shariah    ا ر with
proficiency in many different sciences and branches of knowledge
but he had an intrinsic inclination towards Tafseer, Hadith and Fiqh.
His expertise in Fiqh is why Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Ash Shah Imam
Ahmed Raza  ا ر conferred upon him the title ‘Sadrush Shariah’.
What more do we need to say about a personality whom the Great
Mujad’did of the era refers to as ‘Sadrush Shariah’!
Sharh Ma’ani ul Athaar
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah    ا ر initially started writing marginal
notes on the voluminous book of Imam Abu Ja’far Tahaawi  ا ر on
the science of Hadith, entitled ‘Sharh Ma’ani ul Athaar’ and in a short
period of seven months, he completed a comprehensive annotation
of more than four hundred and fifty pages on this masterpiece.
21
Fatawa Amjadiyah
Another distinguished and renowned work of Huzoor Sadrush
Shariah   ا ر is his Fatawa Amjadiyah, which is in four volumes,
comprising of several of his Fatawa.
When one studies Fatawa Amjadiyah, one is able to see the
manifestation and the reflection of the Fatawa of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat
ا ر flowing from the pen of the grand jurist Huzoor Sayyidi
.ر ا Shariah Sadrush
The four volumes of Fatawa Amjadiyah comprise of hundreds of
Fatawa, which have been written with immense detail. His every
Fatwa is a clear explanation of the Hanafi Madhab.
The World Renowned Bahaar e Shariat
Bahaar e Shariat is that universally acclaimed work of Huzoor
Sadrush Shariah   ا ر which can be justifiably called the
Encyclopaedia of Hanafi Fiqh. Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر wrote
seventeen volumes of the twenty volume book. The remaining three
volumes were completed by his students after his passing away.
It must be noted that the world renowned book Fatawa e Alamgiri
also known as Fatawa Hindiya was compiled by the efforts of more
than five hundred outstanding Scholars of that Era, while Huzoor
Sadrush Shariah  ا ر on the other hand, single-handedly wrote the
famous Bahaar e Shariat.
22
This book has been written in such a beautiful and concise manner
that not only do the Ulama benefit from it, but even the general
public is able to derive benefit through it. Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Ash
Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan   ا ر personally listened to the first
six parts of Bahaar e Shariat as Huzoor Sadrush Shariah    ا ر
recited it to him.
After listening to the first six parts, Huzoor Aala Hazrat   ا ر
mentioned to Sadrush Shariah that he had his blessings to continue
this mammoth task, and there was now no need to read it to him
anymore. This was the confidence which Imam Ahmed Raza  ا ر
had in the work of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر .
The internationally acclaimed Bahaar e Shariat of Huzoor Sayyidi
Sadrush Shariah    ا ر is categorised into its different volumes as
follows:
Volume 1 Book of Imaan and Aqaa’id (Correct Beliefs)

Alhamdu Lillah, this humble servant (sag e Mufti e Azam Muhammad
Afthab Cassim Qaadiri Razvi Noori) has been blessed with the honour
of attempting the translation of Bahaar e Shariat and when doing
this, I was amazed at the wisdom, intelligence, judicial prowess, and
expertise of Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah   ا ر .
He was indeed blessed by Almighty Allah and His Beloved Rasool صلى الله عليه وسلم
and had attained the special attention of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat   ا ر.

This humble servant القدير المو لهغ perused the blessed book Bahaar e
Shariat which discusses the rules of Tahaarat and is the superb
compilation by my brother in the Deen of Allah; the honourable,
dignified, pleasant in nature, sound thinker, exalted and highly
acclaimed Maulana Abul Ula Maulavi Hakeem Muhammad Amjad Ali
.رزقه االله الدارين الحسٰي Aazmi Barkaati Qaadiri
25
Alhamdu-lillah, I have found the book to comprise correct, sound,
well researched and well clarified rulings. Nowadays, there was a
need for such a book, so that our brothers in the general public may
obtain the correct laws in simple Urdu language, thereby protecting
themselves from being misled and drawn into error by raising their
sights to look in the direction of fake and gilded ornaments.
I pray that Allah  blesses the author with abundance in his age,
deeds and blessings, affording him the guidance to compile a
complete book of this nature discussing every topic from Aqaa’id, to
the essential branches of Religion which will serve as a sufficient
contribution and which will be efficacious, adequate and a purifier. I
pray that Allah  publicises him amongst the Ahle Sunnat, making
him beneficial and well accepted in this world and in the hereafter.
His Attachment to Bareilly Shareef
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر gave preference to Bareilly Shareef
more than his own home and family. When Huzoor Sayyidi Mufti e
Azam  ا ر was about to depart for Hajj and it must be noted that in
those days people went for three to three and a half months, and
even for up to four months. There, Hazrat Allama Maulana Sardar
Ahmed ا who was the beloved friend and colleague of Huzoor
Hafiz e Millat    ا ر and one of the two most beloved students of
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ا , meaning Huzoor Hafiz e Millat ا
and Maulana Allama Sardar Ahmed ا.
26
He was appointed as the Shaykh ul Hadith at the Madrassa of Huzoor
Mufti e Azam in Bibi-ji Masjid. He was regarded as one of the most
reputable and trusted Aalims of the time, in Bareilly Shareef.
Huzoor Mufti e Azam  ا ر wrote a letter in those days to Huzoor
Sadrush Shariah   ا ر in which he said, I am going for Ziyaarat e
Haramain Sharifain and Maulana Sardar Ahmed Saaheb will also be
accompanying me. Bareilly will become empty.
If you come here (to Bareilly Shareef) it will be your immense
kindness. (In other words, Huzoor Mufti e Azam was saying that
Bareilly was full by just two personalities at that time). Huzoor
Sadrush Shariah   ا رreplied to the letter and said, I will arrive in
Bareilly one day before your departure.
Huzoor Sayyidi Muhad’dith e Kabeer Qibla says that, During this
time, Huzoor Sadrush   ا ر remained in Bareilly Shareef for just
over four months continuously. During this time I (Huzoor
Muhad’dith e Kabeer) was studying Gulzar e Dabista and a few other
Kitaabs etc. personally under Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر
During those days Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر would also go to
teach at the Madrassah in Bibi-ji Masjid, and when he came back he
asked for all the satchels of ‘chote Maulana’ meaning Huzoor Mufti e
Azam ؓ◌ to be brought, and all the Istiftas (Queries) which had not as
yet been responded to, should also be brought. He said, ‘Do this so
that I can have all of them answered.’
27
Even if there was no work, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah    ا ر used to
create work, so that there was no need to sit idle. It is still not known
at this time as to how many thousands of Fatawa were written.
Maulavi, SubhaanAllah, was the appointed Khaadim there. He would
dictate and ask him to write the answers, or he would ask him to
read the questions and he would close his eyes and listen to the
questions, and then he would dictate the answers and he would
write them. This was the manner he adopted.
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر /would also respond separately to the
mail that he received. He would manage to do so much of the work.
When Huzoor Mufti e Azam    ا ر returned from Ziyaarat e
Haramain Tayyibain, he said that there were two boxes of mail
which I had opened, and I answered all the Istiftas which were there.
After Huzoor Mufti e Azam’s  ا ر return, he remained in Bareilly
Shareef for many more days.
If someone came for anything in those days, he would come to
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah    ا ر ,who would ask his reason for
coming. If the person said Taweez, he would say if you want Taweez
then go on the other side (i.e. to Huzoor Mufti e Azam   ا ر (and if
you want the reply to a Mas’ala then come on this side.

Huzoor Sayyidi Taajush Shariah About
Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah
The Qutbul Aqtaab of The Era Huzoor Sayyidi Taajush Shariah   ا ر
was once requested to say something about the life and personality
of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah  ا ر .The great Imam replied by saying,
What can I say about this life and personality? He was the living and
walking Karaamat of Aala Hazrat Azeem ul Barkat  ا ر and the Faiz
of Aala Hazrat Azeem ul Barkat   ا ر showered upon him
abundantly.
From the deep understanding of the Deen (Tafaqquh fid Deen)
bestowed upon Aala Hazrat Azeem ul Barkat  ا ر Hazrat Maulana
Amjad Ali Saaheb ا received a grand portion of it. When it came
to the love and loyalty to Aala Hazrat  ا ر and the Family of Aala
Hazrat   ا رhe was peerless in this regard.
His children have inherited this loyalty and it is flowing in them
even till this day, and this is evident in his Representative and
Successor as well.
They have a special and pure love for Aala Hazrat Azeem ul Barkat,
and this same trait can be seen in the loyal students of Huzoor
Sadrush Shariah   ا ر and in the students of his students as well.
29
Some of His Students
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر found time to do all this even though
he spent most of his time instructing students. The students of
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah ا include some of the greatest Ulama of
the time. Some of the names of his students are as follows:
• Huzoor Hafiz e Millat Allama Abdul Aziz Muhad’dith
Muradabadi
• Muhad’dith e Azam Pakistan Mufti Sardar Ahmed
• Huzoor Mujahid e Millat Allama Habibur Rahmaan
• Imam un Nahw Allama Sayyid Ghulam Jilani Meerati
• Sheh Besha e Sunnat Allama Hashmat Ali Khan
• Amin e Shari’at Allama Rifaqat Hussain Muzafarpuri
• Shams ul Ulama Qadi Shamsud’deen Jaunpuri
• Khairul Azkiya Allama Ghulam Yazdani Aazmi

His Final Journey
In though the Urs Shareef of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah    ا ر
commences on the 2nd of Zul-Qadah, Huzoor Sayyidi Sadrush Shariah
ا ر in fact travelled from this mundane world into the hereafter
on Monday, the eve of the 3rd of Zul-Qadah 1327 Hijri at 12.26 am
whilst intending to journey for his second Hajj and Ziyaarat.
Hazrat Maulana Mujeeb ul Islam Saaheb ا mentions that when
Huzoor Mufti e Azam  ا ر was preparing for Hajj, in which Huzoor
Sadrush Shariah   ا ر passed from this world while on this journey,
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر also intended Hajj that year, and
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر decided that he will not depart for
Hajj from home, but rather he would depart from Bareilly Shareef.
35
Hence, even during his final journey, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر
journeyed from Bareilly Shareef, and this was the proof of his love
for Bareilly Shareef and for the Successor of Huzoor Sayyidi Aala
Hazrat  ا ر .This this same sincerity, loyalty and devotion which
we see today in his Successor, Huzoor Sayyidi Muhad’dith Kabeer
Allama Zia ul Mustafa Qaadiri Amjadi Qibla.
Huzoor Sayyidi Muhad’dith e Kabeer Qibla says about the Final
Journey of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah  ا ر that, He decided that he
will not depart for Hajj from home, but rather he would depart from
Bareilly Shareef. He then came to Bareilly Shareef and my beloved
mother also accompanied him (on this trip). He became severely ill
while in Bareilly Shareef. He became so weak that he could not even
stand up by himself.
During this time someone sent an Istifta to Huzoor Sayyidi Mufti e
Azam   ا ر .He in turn said, ‘I am occupied in making travel
arrangements. Take it to Sadrush Shariah.’ The person then brought
the query. Maulana Mujeeb ul Islam Saaheb said, ‘I presented it to
him and said Hazrat has said that you should write the answer to this
query.’ Huzoor Sadrush Shariah compassionately said, ‘He is sending
it to me even though I am ill.’ He then said, ‘Bring it, I will respond to
it. I will dictate and you must write it.’
So, even in this condition, he replied to the query. These
personalities came (into this world) for the sake of serving the Deen.
When they lived in this world, even though they were on their beds,
or afflicted by illness, they continued doing the work of Deen. He
36
remained in this illness until he reached Bombay. It would become
so intense that he would often remain in an unconscious state.
Huzoor Sayyidi Muhad’dith e Kabeer Qibla further says; My beloved
mother was with him at this time. He asked her to call Allama Arshad
ul Qaadiri ا who is my maternal uncle. In other words, he was
my beloved mother’s young brother.
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah  ا ر asked that he be called from Nagpur
so that he may take care of him (during this illness), so he arrived.
Allama Arshad ul Qaadiri ا states, He used to be in an
unconscious state, but when the time of Namaaz appeared, he
would become conscious, and he would command me to wash
his face and hands and make his Masah etc.
In this manner he would be able to perform his Namaaz while lying
on his bed. He states that on the day Huzoor Mufti e Azam was
departing (from Bombay) for Hajj, he came to visit Huzoor Sadrush
.ر ا Shariah
He says that the moment he entered, Huzoor Sadrush Shariah  ا ر
opened his eyes. He said to Huzoor Sayyidi Mufti e Azam  ا ر’ Are
you going?’ He said, ‘Yes I am going.’ Both of them began to weep.
Huzoor Sadrush Shariah  ا ر said, ‘It’s fine, you go ahead, I am
also coming.’ Just as Huzoor Mufti e Azam    ا ر departed, the
Captain of the Ship started off by sounding the whistle, and here the
soul departed from the body of Huzoor Sadrush Shariah   ا ر .
Huzoor Sayyidi Muhad’dith e Kabeer Qibla says, Hazrat Maulana
37
Sardar Ahmed Saaheb ا ر wrote a letter which was addressed to
my beloved mother, because she could not go for Hajj, as she had to
return from Bombay. She only went for Hajj once thereafter. I had
completed all my studies, so I took her for Hajj. Then, the letter of
Hazrat Muhad’dith e Azam Pakistan Hazrat Allama Maulana Sardar
Ahmed Saaheb ا arrived. He wrote that, ‘Many times while
performing Tawaaf I made Ziyaarat of Hazrat Sadrush Shariah
ؓ◌. I rushed towards where he was, and as I came close to him,
he disappeared and the place was empty. He says that this
happened many times.’ Hazrat Allama Arshad ul Qaadiri says, The
moment Hazrat e Sadrush Shariah’s   ا ر soul departed,
immediately by the Grace of Allah, a couplet entered my heart and I
proclaimed,
Madine Ka Musaafir Hind Se Pahuncha Madine Me
Qadam Rakhne Ki Nawbat Bhi Na Aayi Thee Safinay Me
The Pilgrim of Madina, From India Already Reached Madina
No Need Did He Have To Even Place His Foot on The Ship
His Blessed Mazaar Shareef is situated in Madinat ul Ulama Ghosi
Shareef, India.
