Sayyidi Aala Hazrat’s Khulafa
Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam Ahle Sunnat Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan is a personality who needs no real introduction. He is indeed the Imam e Ahle Sunnah of the time, and a true Aashiq e Rasool who was drowned in the love of the Beloved Nabi. He is the one who said,
Jaan o Dil Hosh o Khirad Sub To Madine Pahunche
Tum Nahi Chalte Raza Saara To Samaan Gaya
Your Soul, Your Heart, Your Senses and Your Thoughts Have All Reached Madina
You are Not Going, O Raza! All Your Belongings Have Already Gone…
The services of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓto the Ahle Sunnah are so much, that we cannot start to count them. One of the greatest services to the Ummah, was his battle against the deviants, in order to safeguard the Imaan of the Believers.
Amongst the services to the Ummah, one of the great services of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat appears before us in the form of his ardent and sincere devotees, students, and Khulafa.
All his Khulafa strictly adhered to the teachings of The Ahlus Sunnah and they followed in the footsteps of their Spiritual Master. They stood firmly against deviants and strived for the protection of the Imaan of Muslims.
They followed the path which is the recognition of the True Ahlus Sunnah, and this path is called Maslak e Aala Hazrat. This is why even today we follow the beautiful way of Aala Hazrat which is known as Maslak e Aala Hazrat and is the path of all the pious predecessors.
There were many mureeds (disciples) and Khulafa (Spiritual Successors) of Aala Hazrat. They were found throughout the Indo-Pak sub-continent and also in other parts of the world.

The Khulafa of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat needs no introduction to the Muslim World. Their impact, influence, and contribution towards the development of Islamic culture and Islamic thinking left their mark in the pages of history.
Mufti Mahmood Jaan Peshawari From amongst the senior and beloved Khulafa of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat is Hazrat Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Peshawari Alaihir Rahma. He was an Allah-Fearing, a personality who spent his entire life for the sake of Allah and His Rasool.
Hazrat Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Peshawari Alaihir Rahma hailed from a very pious and knowledgeable family. Leadership and serving the Ummah were qualities that he inherited from his pious forefathers. His home was a sanctuary for those with Imaan, and a barrier against the deviants.
Mufti Mahmood Jaan’s Father
One of the greatest services of Hazrat Ghulam Rasool Alaihir Rahma was his fight against the fitna of Wahabism. He stamped out this great fitna in Afghanistan during his time. The fitna of Wahabism was imported by Isma’eel Delhvi into Afghanistan, through one of his students.
The people of Afghanistan were easily being misled and confused by the corrupt Wahabi teachings. During such a time, Hazrat Ghulam Rasool Alaihir Rahma refuted Isma’eel Delhvi and Wahabism. He informed and educated the people of Afghanistan with regards to the corrupt beliefs of the Wahabis, and it was due to his efforts that the people of Afghanistan understood the deviance which the Wahabis were spreading, and thus turned against the Wahabis. Many Wahabis were killed, whilst others who survived were forced to flee Afghanistan.
His Early Life
It was in this setting that Allama Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma was groomed. He attained his academic knowledge at the blessed feet of his father. After completion of his studies, he migrated to Kathiyawar,
Jamjodhpur (Gujrat India), where he ardently served the Muslim community. During his early days in Gujrat, he became very popular due to his debating skills, and through debating, he defeated many Christian leaders.
About The Ilm e Ghaib of Nabi Kareem
When asked about the Ilm e Ghaib of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah, Mufti Mahood Jaan Alaihir Rahma commences his response with the following words,
‘Without doubt, Almighty Allah blessed the Most exalted, Glorified and Blessed Prophet, The means of Distribution, the means to the creation of the universe, The Beloved of Almighty Allah and the Leader of all the Prophets, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa with all the knowledge from the beginning until the end. Not even an atom has been hidden from his blessed knowledge.’
He further says,
This (Ilm e Ghaib i.e. knowledge of the Unseen) is only one gem from the limitless pearls of knowledge that have been bestowed upon Muhammadur Rasoolullah. The rays of which have brightened and enlightened the hearts of the Muslims. Those who reject this knowledge are as blind as bats. The lightning of Allah’s Wrath fell upon them, destroying what they had, for they questioned and protested!’
Subhaan’Allah!
Look at how he not only praises the excellence of Nabi Kareem but at the same time he refutes the deviants in a harsh and firm manner.
The Mi’raj of Nabi Kareem
When questioned about the Mi’raj of Nabi Kareem Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma commenced his response by saying,
‘The Mi’raj of the Beloved Rasool is a reality (i.e. a fact) and the Aqida
of the Ahle Sunnat Wa Jama’at. It is proven from the Holy Qur’an, from the
Sunnah and from Ijma. The journey from Makkah to Masjid-e-Aqsa is
proven from authentic verses and one who rejects this is a kaafir
(unbeliever). The journey from Masjid-e-Aqsa and then towards the
heavens is proven from eminent Ahadith and is also proven from the
statements of the pious predecessors. One who rejects this is misled and a
deviant. The journey from the skies into Jannat and towards the Arsh and
even beyond this; in other words, the journey to ‘La Maqaan’, and Him
visiting Heaven and Hell, etc. are proven from Hadith Shareef, and to go
against this is to transgress the law and one who does so is a Faasiq.’
The Intercession of Nabi Kareem
When asked about the Shafa’at (Intercession) of Nabi Kareem Allama
Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma commences his response by saying,
‘Almighty Allah has blessed the Beloved Rasool with the permission to
intercede even whilst He was still on this earth (in the sight of the
people). He will surely and undoubtedly intercede for us and is currently
interceding (for us), as this is evident from numerous Ahadith-eMubaaraka.’

Refuting the Deviants on Shafa’at
Refuting the Wahabis and all those who reject the Shafa’at Mufti Mahmood
Jaan Alaihir Rahma says,
‘It is sad that the Wahabis have tried to disprove such an established fact by
causing confusion in the minds of the people with the intent of misleading
them, through the whispering of shaitaan. These people are with the
Mu’tazilas are their brothers, and in most cases, they have the same
views as well, even though the Mu’tazilas do not even oppose the issue of
Shafa’at (intercession) directly. However, they only accept this, as a
blessing in reward. Both these sects are gone beyond this and have diverted
from the Siraat-e-Mustaqeem. They have entered their foot into the valley
of deviance.’
He further chastises, refutes, and challenges the deviants boldly by saying;
‘Listen Carefully! This issue of intercession is so well-established that there
are verses of the Qur’an to prove it. There is also evidence of this in Sahih,
Mashur and Mutawatir Ahadith. All the poof which you people (deviant
sects) present, add up to nothing before these, and are not worthy of
anything. It is useless for you people to strive with all your efforts in
disproving intercession as your efforts are useless.’
The Deceased Indeed Hear
When asked as to whether the deceased are able to hear he commences his
response with the following words;
‘Verily the dead hear the salaam and words of the living, and there is proof
of this both logically and from authentic sources. Only those who are
deprived of intellect and knowledge, object, refute or doubt this clear fact.
Amongst them are the Mu’tazila (a deviant sect), who have gone astray
from the true path. There is the consensus of the entire Ahle Sunnat on the
issue of the deceased hearing.’
He very beautifully says,
‘Logically, all the senses, such as hearing, seeing, and knowing are proven
for the “Rooh” (The soul). The body is only a shell for the soul. When the
soul leaves the body, then due to it being freed, its abilities and senses
increase. The soul has no need for the body, whether it has decayed or been
burnt to ashes. After death, the soul receives excellence and elegance. The
light and purity of the soul are elevated, and it gains strength in life. When
the senses are really of the soul, then according to the consensus of the
Muslim Scholars and some modern-day philosophers, the soul continues
existing (after death) and does not die. If this is accepted, then how is it
possible for the Rooh not to hear or see, etc?’
In Search of Spiritual Blessings
After some time, he decided to go out in search of spiritual blessings. Thus,
began his spiritual journey in search of a Shaykh e Kaamil (a True Spiritual
Master).
As he made this intention, it seemed as if the Grand Masters of Marahrah
Shareef had already placed their blessed attention on him, guiding him
towards their true representative and their beloved disciple in Bareilly
Shareef. In other words, he was guided towards Mujaddid-e-Deen-o-Millat,
Aala Hazrat Ash Shah Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Qaadiri Barakaati ؓ◌. This
uncut gem was now to be cut and polished by the great Imam, as its light
would one day brighten the hearts of Muslims throughout the globe.
Meeting Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌
Hazrat Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma personally narrates this
an incident as follows:
“For a long time, this thought was in my heart that unless and until I do
not find a Kaamil and exalted Shaykh, I will not become a Mureed. It was
during this time, that I began reading the Islamic Magazine published by
Hazrat Maulana Muhammad Zia’ud’deen Saaheb Pillibiti Alaihir Rahma
which flowed with gems of knowledge and wisdom. It was in this that I
(first) read about Sayyiduna Aala Hazrat . My heart immediately said that
to find such a great personality in this era is not ordinary.’
Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma further says;
Through Divine guidance, I traveled to Bareilly Shareef where I presented
myself in the blessed Court of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌. The moment I saw
his bright face, my heart melted, my Imaan was refreshed and my heart
blossomed like never before.’
Mufti Mahmood Jaan Becomes Mureed
Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma now takes us through the
process when he became Mureed of Aala Hazrat ؓ◌. He says,
‘I had found a Shaykh (Murshid) even greater than I could have imagined.
I requested to be initiated into the Silsila, and my Shaykh accepted me as
his devotee, and immediately blessed me with Ijaazat and Khilafat. He then
went into the house, removed what he was wearing at the time, and blessed
me with his Kurta, trouser, Amaama, and waistcoat. This was a great
blessing from such a sea of generosity. He blessed this humble servant with
the crown of Khilafat in the Silsila Aaliyah, Qaadiriyah, Barakaatiyah,
Razviyah, Chishtiyah, Suharwardiyah, Naqshbandiyah, and in other Silsilas
as well. He showered me with immense love and respect, and in that time,
he bestowed so many titles upon me, and showed such love to me, which I
will never forget for as long as I live.”
Subhaan’Allah! What a beautiful moment this must have been when a true
seeker of Ruhaniyah finds the ocean of knowledge and Ruhaniyah of the
era, and is then blessed with fountains of light and wisdom.
An Amazing Union
The beauty of this union between the Shaykh and the Mureed is by itself
amazing. When Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌ initiated Allama Mufti Mahmood
Jaan Alaihir Rahma into the Silsila (The Spiritual Chain), many scholars
have said, that Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌ was around forty years old and
Allama Mahmood Jaan الرحم علي was around eighty years old.
The Murshid’s Love for His Mureed
Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma would often be heard saying
that he had been blessed by His Shaykh with blessings from the vast oceans
of Shariat and Tariqat.
Sayyidi Aala Hazrat loved Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma dearly and
displayed this on numerous occasions. Hazrat Mahmood Jaan says, ‘Nine or
ten months before Sayyidi Ala Hazrat’s ؓ◌ wisaal, he wrote a blessed letter
to me, in which he said that he had mentioned the names of all his Khulafa
in his Book ‘Al Istimdaad’, but my name was unintentionally omitted
during printing. I say, that unintentionally, missing out on my name was a
means of great blessing for me, since my Shaykh prayed for me on this
occasion.’
Your Name Should Have Been Gilded in
Gold
The explanatory translation of the words of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌ in the
letter to Allama Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma were as follows:
‘Due to my busy schedule and my duties, your name was unintentionally
omitted (from Al Istimdaad), which should have been gilded in gold in the
list of names of my well-wishers and supporters, at the end of the Qasida
Al Istimdaad. I only realized this after it was published, and I still regret
this.’
His Faith in His Murshid
Hazrat Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma had true faith in his
Shaykh and was drowned in the deep love of his Murshid. He personally
narrates an incident, which shows how much faith he had in his Murshid e -Kaamil. He says, ‘I did not have any sons, so during the forty days Faateha
(Urs-e-Chehlum) of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌, I went to the Mazaar of my
Shaykh and asked Almighty Allah to bless me with a son through the Wasila
of his chosen servant, Aala Hazrat ؓ◌. Alhumdu-Lillah, within the same
year, Almighty Allah blessed me with a son, whom I named Ahmad Raza.’
It should be noted that Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma was
more than one hundred years old when his son was born. Subhaan’Allah!
The Famous Black and White Striped
Dome of Aala Hazrat’s Mazaar
It was the very same Allama Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma who during one
of his journeys sketched a Gumbad (Dome) for the Mazaar of Sayyidi Aala
Hazrat . He did this using burnt match sticks as a pen. It is the very same
design that we see on the Mazaar of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌ even to this
day. In other words, the Gumbad of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌ was designed
by his beloved Mureed Hazrat Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma.
His Books
Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma wrote numerous books in his
lifetime. The most well-known books amongst them are ‘Zikr e Raza’ and
‘Eedha-e-Sunnat’. Both these documents are gems of wisdom and
knowledge for those who are true seekers of knowledge and wisdom.
Concerning the book Zikr e Raza, Malik ul Ulama Hazrat Allama
Zafrud’deen Bihar Alaihir Rahma in the introduction of his world-renowned Biography of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌ ‘Hayaat e Aala Hazrat’ says,
that the very first booklet on the life and works of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌
was written by Allama Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma.
This alone is a great honor afforded to Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir
Rahma, as he is counted amongst the first personalities to have written a
book on the life of Sayyidi Aala Hazrat Imam Ahmed Raza Khan ؓ◌.
Eedha e Sunnah
His book Eedha-e-Sunnat is endorsed with seals by sixty-three (63)
distinguished scholars of the Ahle Sunnat Wa Jama’at, who are regarded as
Giants of the Muslim world. Amongst those who endorsed Eedha-e-Sunnat
are personalities such as Huzoor Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌, Huzoor Sayyidi
Hujjatul Islam ؓ◌, Huzoor Sayyidi Mufti e Azam Hind ؓ◌, Huzoor Sayyidi
Sadrush Shariah ؓ◌ and Huzoor Sayyidi Muhad’dith e Surti ؓ◌.
The Endorsement by Imam Ahle Sunnat
Sayyidi Aala Hazrat ؓ◌
O Allah, For You is all Praise. This blessed book which has been written by
my companion and my beloved brother in Islam, The helper of the Sunnah,
destroyer of Bid’at, Respected Maulana Maulvi Mahmood Jaan Saaheb
Qaadiri Barakaati Peshawari Alaihir Rahma has passed before me. I found
it adorned with great attributes and I have found it to be complete and
concise. I thanked Allah for blessing the author with such Taufeeq to
support the Deen in such a difficult time, and in such a time of corruption.
Verily the blessing of Allah and His Rasool is upon this learned Faadil
and In’sha Allah, his reward for his effort, through the blessings of the
Beloved Rasool is closeness to Allah and a blessed place in the Holy
ٰ اعلم .Paradise

His Wisaal
This distinguished scholar, True devotee, loyal servant, and great spiritual
master, traveled from this mundane world into the hereafter on the 3rd of
Safar. Some say he passed away at the age of one hundred and eighteen
while some say one hundred and thirty.
The light brightened the hearts of many, by removing the darkness
of ‘Kufr’ and ‘Shirk’, had come to rest, in the love of Allah and His Beloved
Rasool.
May Almighty Allah shower His choicest blessings upon the blessed Mazaar
of Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Alaihir Rahma and may Allah bless us with
the Fuyooz and Barakat of this blessed Saint. Aameen.
His Mazaar
The Mazaar Shareef of Allama Mufti Mahmood Jaan Peshawari Alaihir
Rahma is situated in Jamjodhpur, which is in the Indian state of Gujrat.
Every day people visit his blessed Mazaar Shareef to attain blessings.
Annually his family members get together and commemorate his Blessed
Urs Shareef is attended by thousands of Muslims, who pay tribute to
him for his services to Islam.
